NICOLAS CHARDON
2016

Born in 1974.
Lives and works in Paris.

By introducing humor through the canvas itself, Nicolas Chardon bring real life into abstract suprematist patterns.
Instead of using traditional support in linen, he uses ready made fabrics, originally well squared with straight grid patterns, which, while stapled to their stetchers, deform the lines. Then the supposed supermatist square forms are painted, follwing the graphic accidents created by this deformation process…
Artist in Roma’s Villa Médicis residency (2009), he graduated from ENSBA Paris. Selected exhibitions include Museum für Konkrete Kunst of Ingolstadt in 2015, MNAM – Centre Pompidou and CAC of Brétigny in 2013, the musée d’art Moderne et contemporain of Strasbourg in 2012. His work is part of the collections of the Centre Pompidou, the Fnac, the Frac Aquitaine / Bourgogne / Bretagne,
the MUDAM (Luxembourg) and of the Meritz Foundation (Seoul).

He is represented by Galerie Jean Brolly (Paris)
He is shortlisted for the fifth edition of the Jean-Francois Prat Prize (2016).
